The wise enjoy the mountains, the benevolent enjoy the water.  - Confucius.
It is the best footnote for the project where it's among the terraces of Shandong, surrounded by forests, waterways and facing the sea.

Therefore the mountains and waterways are the initial inspiration for the project. The concept of "Crevice" was derived from the strength, complexity and tension generated from giant triangle s which metaphorically represents the local winding landscape scene of mountains beyond mountains. Meanwhile the serendipity is brought by the essence of the waterway- forever changing, involving and transforming. It's not only the framework of program and circulation, but also a tool to create new perspectives, a dialogue between visitors and space and a guidance to the ascetic, time-suspended culture of inner peace.

The Form / Crevice

was inspired by the "Mashi Hill" and local winding landscape scene where the giant triangle shadows casted from mountains beyond mountains. e of this project.
The Texture / Terrace
is a symbol of both pagoda roof and winding cultivated land. The long and profound influence of agriculture deeply rooted in local landscape(terrace)  is reflected and blended in the contemporary pattern of roof. The ancient spirit about soil is conveyed and interpreted here and will be carried on through generations.
The Space / Forest

emphasize the interaction between the nature and museum gallery. Its meticulously sculpted space creates pockets of courtyard, integrated context with natural topography, visual connections to nature and platform for local culture and artistic expression.
The Circulation / Waterway

Metaphorically and literally, the forever changing, involving and transforming essence of waterway in the project represents serendipity. It's the dialogue between visitors and authors, providing unplanned discoveries and flowing scenic changes, projecting the visitor into the ascetic, time-suspended culture of inner peace.

We hope that this design can be integrated into the local landscape while appearing as a natural extension of the earth. It's also a contemporary reflection of the long and profound influence of ancient history and spirit. The crevice is where light can cast through hard rocks, as this project is a place deeply rooted in tradition and nurturing something new.

Within the rain-kissed eaves of the corridor, behold architectural forms that harmonize with the contours of the mountain, gracefully yielding to its majestic embrace.

To promote and carry forward the local Yangge dance performance, which is an intangible cultural heritage, a continuous winding ramp was designed as the stage for the Yangge dance performance in this spacious area near the entrance. Here, people can enjoy the joyful Yangge dance performed in the wheat fields.

Ascending the steps to the various exhibition halls, visitors will find locally unique handicrafts displayed inside. Courtyard volumes inserted on either side provide gentle lighting and bright greenery to the indoor space.

In the space of the teahouse, people can taste fragrant tea. On sunny days, they can open the sliding doors and enjoy nature. Meanwhile, they can also appreciate the traditional performance of Rushan Qinshu. The hollow brass flower windows can redefine the space through rotation, with their geometric patterns harmonizing with the overall architecture.

Behind the teahouse, there is a long corridor showcasing the works of local calligraphers.

In the subterranean gallery, the theme dances with crimson hues, weaving tales of Mashan's somber past and valorous tales. Above, cascading rice stalks adorn the ceiling, kissed by gentle light, whispering dreams of resilience and the enduring promise of hope.
